Classes I have loved taking my 2.5 year old daughter to Bija family yoga. We have been going for a few months and we both love the class. Everything from doing downward dog together to holding each other's hands in tree pose, to having her "massage" my back during relaxation. It is both a wonderful way for her to learn some yoga as well as a great way for us to interact. My favorite part might be her putting her hands together and saying "namaste" at random times... Little Lotuses Yoga (crawling - 3 yrs) This class introduces the basics of yoga to our tiniest yogis in a creative and active way. Circle time, storytelling, animal poses and parachute games are incorporated into the curriculum making the yoga practice fun and accessible. Breathing techniques, bubbles and relaxation help the little lotuses to focus and find calm. Classes improve coordination, balance and increase strength. Please note: while yoga experience is not necessary, parents/caregivers are an integral part of this class and should come ready to participate.
Down Dog I, II (3 yrs - 9 yrs) Down Dog classes introduce children to the practice of yoga. Yoga poses and principles are explored in a variety of fun ways. Nature, basic anatomy, and imagination are all key aspects of the class. Children are encouraged to explore the way their bodies move through creative projects, collaboration, story time and songs. Chanting, breathing exercises and simple meditation practices relax and calm the mind. Each class finishes with relaxation, something the little yogis come to look forward to! No prior yoga experience required.
Family Yoga (walkers +) Family Yoga classes are designed to bring this beautiful practice to everyone. Each class will provide tools, games and poses that can be practiced at home with kids of all ages. Through group and partner work, games, breathing practices and more, beginner and experienced yogis will have fun exploring the possibilities! Classes improve strength, coordination and flexibility. Meditation, chanting and relaxation techniques are incorporated into each session. No yoga experience necessary. Adult participation is required.
Create Art (2yrs - 8yrs) Create Art classes introduce children to art making through the lens of curiosity and exploration. Weekly classes are progressional and include individual and collaborative projects presented in an age appropriate and fun way. A variety of medium will be explored including paint, clay, paper mache, ink and more. Reclaimed and recycled materials are used whenever possible and students are encouraged to view life as a catalyst for creation. Older students will study masters for inspiration. Prenatal Yoga (adult) A yoga practice to keep your body comfortable, healthy and strong as it changes during pregnancy. Prenatal yoga supports seasoned yoginis as well as the beginning yoga student. Bija classes will teach you how to safely and effectively customize your yoga practice through all stages of your pregnancy. All prenatal classes include asana, pranayama (breathing practices) and savasana (deep relaxation) and are taught by experienced prenatal instructors.
Mommy Baby Yoga (adult with pre-crawlers) Mommy Baby Yoga gives new parents a community of supportive practice during one of life's greatest transitions. Come stretch, strengthen and learn to realign your body while practicing with your baby. Our instructors will guide you through a practice that is nurturing and challenging as well as offer instruction about using yoga to connect with your baby.
Parent Practice (adult w/ childcare) Come enjoy an hour long practice with the unique offering of onsite childcare. Parent Practice is a vigorous Open Level Vinyasa class with parents of children 18mths and up. Bija Kids staff will engage your child in playtime including storytime, art and craft projects, bubbles and free play in the studio next door while you dive back into your practice. All Parent Practice classes include asana, pranayama and savasana and are open to both seasoned and new practitioners. You are welcome to join Parent Practice solo if you are not looking for childcare during this offering.
